Do You Remember Your Early Childhood Artwork? A Colorful Show at Taft!

Here is a Grade 2 Showcase from Mrs. Lowther’s Room

It was a dreary Saturday outdoors, but inside the Taft Early Learning Center, it was not.  The school was transformed into a colorful and inspiring art haven as students showcased their creative talents during the much-anticipated Taft art show.  I love it when ALL of our students have the opportunity to have their artistic abilities celebrated by their school staff, parents, and families.

A Kaleidoscope of Talent

As soon as you entered the school, you were greeted by a vibrant display of handcrafted art pieces adorning the hallways. Every inch of the walls was covered in the students' imaginative creations, which ranged from intricate paintings and collages to imaginative sculptures and mixed media pieces. Many of the teachers also decorated their doors with student art samples.  When I look at colorful displays of art crafted by kids, I am reminded of the things Luca (my son, now 12) would come home with when he was in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grade.  He’d be so proud.  I still have most of it.

The school's library also hosted an incredible array of student artwork that was carefully displayed. And, to add a touch of excitement and friendly competition to the event, the Taft PTO organized a silent auction – I didn’t win, by the way.  The proceeds from the auction will be used to fund important school initiatives and enrichment programs, ensuring that the students continue to have access to the resources they need to thrive academically and creatively.

Growing Minds and Lettuce

Besides the art show, attendees learned about an exciting project led by STEAM Teacher, Amanda Gallerani. Thanks to a grant she received, Ms. Gallerani is currently growing over 120 heads of lettuce in her classroom. In about a month, these greens will be fully grown, showcasing the power of innovative teaching methods and hands-on learning experiences. This unique project not only teaches students about sustainable agriculture but also highlights the importance of interdisciplinary education.
